Your privacy matters to the Ethical Non-Monogamy Project (ENMP).
Because our research may involve personal experiences and sensitive topics, we take privacy and confidentiality seriously. This policy explains the types of information ENMP may collect, how that information is used, and the steps we take to protect it.
Information You Choose to Provide
You may provide personal information when you:
- Schedule a research interview
- Participate in an interview
- Contact ENMP by email
- Communicate with us about our research
- Participate in future surveys or research activities
Depending on the interaction, this information may include your name, email address, scheduling information, and information you voluntarily choose to share during research participation.
Research Participation
Participation in ENMP research is voluntary.
During an interview, you may decline to answer any question, ask to move to another topic, or end the interview at any time without explanation.
You never need to share information about partners or other people in your life that you are not comfortable discussing.
ENMP does not publish identifying information about research participants without their explicit permission.
Research findings are generally reported using themes, patterns, aggregated information, and anonymized examples rather than identifying individual participants.
Interview Data
Information shared during research interviews may be documented, transcribed, summarized, coded, or analyzed for research purposes.
ENMP takes reasonable steps to separate identifying information from research data when practical and to limit access to information collected from participants.
Details about recording, transcription, or other methods of capturing an interview will be disclosed to participants when applicable.
That last sentence is important. Until we've finalized exactly how Google Meet transcription/recording and the AI research pipeline work, I don't want the privacy policy promising a specific technical process that may change.
Use of Artificial Intelligence
ENMP may use artificial intelligence tools to assist with research activities such as transcription, summarization, organization, coding, and identification of potential patterns across interviews.
AI-generated analysis is treated as an analytical aid rather than an independent research conclusion.
Research findings and interpretations are reviewed by ENMP before publication.
As ENMP's research systems develop, we will continue evaluating the privacy and data-handling practices of technology used in the research process.
Scheduling and Video Interviews
ENMP currently uses third-party services to support research participation, including scheduling and video conferencing platforms.
When you use these services, certain information may also be processed according to the privacy policies and terms of those providers.
ENMP currently conducts interviews through Google Meet and uses TinyCal for interview scheduling.
Website Information
Like most websites, enmproject.org may collect limited technical information when you visit the site.
This may include information such as browser type, device type, referring pages, approximate location, and pages visited.
This information may be used to understand how visitors use the website, improve the site, measure participation interest, and maintain website security and performance.
Cookies and Analytics
ENMP may use cookies or similar technologies necessary for website functionality, analytics, scheduling, security, or performance.
Third-party services embedded in or connected to the website may also use cookies according to their own privacy policies.

This is the claim I'd make confidently.
I would not say "we never share information with third parties," because Google, TinyCal, hosting providers, email infrastructure, and future research tools technically make that statement difficult to guarantee.
Service Providers
ENMP may use third-party service providers to operate the website, communicate with participants, schedule interviews, conduct video meetings, store information, analyze research, or perform other necessary functions.
These providers may process limited information as necessary to provide their services.
ENMP evaluates the tools used in its research and operations with privacy and data protection in mind.
Data Retention
ENMP retains information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was collected, research integrity, operational requirements, or applicable legal obligations.
Research data may be retained for longer periods when necessary to support ongoing or future research while taking reasonable steps to minimize unnecessary identifying information.
